Committee Spotlight: Student and Early Career Professionals

The Student and Early Career Professionals Committee provides an outlet for education, collaboration, mentoring and professional growth and development for students and early career professionals with a shared interest in injury and violence research.

Q: Tell me a fun fact about your committee.

A: We used to be called the young professionals committee, but some of us felt we were pushing it to call ourselves “young”. We’re open to anyone who considers themselves to be at an early career stage.

Q: What should SAVIR members know about your committee?

A: We are always ready to welcome new members.

Q: If your committee were a sports team, what would be your mascot?

A: I’m afraid I’m the wrong person to ask about American sports mascots. Dare I say the Boxing Kangaroo? Never a backwards step, very interested in injury.

Q: Which of your committee members is most likely to host the first post-pandemic dinner party?

A: Jim Dodington. Quick to pull up a calendar and lock in a meal date, and very committed to broadening the injury research tent.

Q: How can SAVIR members get involved with planning for future conferences? How often/when does your committee meet?

A: Feel free to email Chris Morrison if you’re interested to be involved – cm3820@cumc.columbia.edu. We meet on the 4th Monday of each month at 3pm eastern time, though this changes each semester with our members’ availability.
